Dive & Travel Expo partners with NCUPS

The Northern California Dive & Travel Expo, based in Santa Clara, California, is partnering with the Northern California Underwater Photographic Society (NCUPS) and SeaLife Underwater Cameras to celebrate the winners of the 48th Annual SEA Competition, an International Amateur Underwater Photo & Video competition.  The entrants and winners of this competition will be displayed and shown at the Dive & Travel Expo, held May 4-5, 2013 in Santa Clara, California.

“I am excited about partnering with NCUPS. They are a great organization that benefits the dive community of Northern California. Our mission is to promote the sport of diving by engaging divers to dive locally and engage in local community events,” said event director Rick Stratton. “NCUPS is an established organization whose commitment to local diving and events is substantial. They have a long history of engagement and support for our industry. It is a great partnership.”

Entrants and winners of the SEA Competition and the Bob Commer Award of Excellence in Underwater Photography will be presented by The Northern California Underwater Photographic Society and SeaLife Underwater Cameras at the Saturday Night Film Festival (SNFF) held at the Hyatt hotel, adjacent to the Santa Clara Convention Center. The SNFF will begin at 5:40 p.m. with free hors d'oeuvres served along with a no-host bar. In addition to SEA images and video, local photographer Mark Blum will present stunning 3-D images and Backscatter will present The Best of Backscatter, a collection of the incredible images produced by the innovative and aggressive photography company.

The competition is open to amateur photographers and videographers from around the world using any type of camera to capture our underwater world. With prizes totaling in the tens of thousands of dollars, award sponsors of the SEA 2013 competition include: SCUBA ecotourism resorts, travel agencies, luxury live-aboard dive boats, and SCUBA and photography equipment manufacturers. Previous competitions have brought in the finest still images and video entries from underwater photographers and videographers around the world!

The SEA 2013 competition will issue awards for the best work in still categories including Macro, Wide Angle, Underwater California, and Marine Conservation; plus Creative. There are two video categories: Classic and Video Snapshots.

The SEA 2013 competition Best of Show, in addition to a selected prize from the prize list, is awarded the prestigious Bob Commer Award of Photographic Excellence, which includes a trophy and a check for $500.00 USD!

Entry is open on March 1, 2013 – submissions will be allowed no later than April 12, 2013.
