Beneath the Sea Shares Excitement and Memories

The weekend of March 22, 23, and 24 brings Beneath the Sea’s 37th annual Oceans Exposition, Dive and Travel show to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey.  2013 will prove to be a banner year for Beneath the Sea in creating excitement within all sections of the dive world: history, conservation, diving, and travel.

 

It begins at 9:00 a.m. Friday when Beneath the Sea’s Marine Career’s program musters it free day-long excitement of men and women with successful careers, supplemented by scholarship clinics, and hands-on “what it’s like working underwater” experiences. There will be prizes. There will be colleges and training schools interested in speaking with potential students looking for marine careers, and there will be men and women from all sectors of the diving community to lead those wanting marine careers to the right path for them.

At 7:00 pm Friday, at La Quinta, The Fish and The Famous gala and silent auction begins. It attracts serious divers and industry professionals all who come to eat, meet, and greet the elite of the dive community. It’s Stan Waterman’s 90th birthday so this year the Fish n’ Famous will be a huge birthday party as well.

Saturday, March 24, Beneath the Sea’s doors open to the exhibit floor at 9:00am.  Seminars and Workshops are in full swing covering subjects from ocean environment, underwater photography, shark diving, wreck diving, dive training, dive education, cold water diving, dive medicine, technical diving; and a myriad of how-to subjects like visual cylinder inspection, oxygen first aid, disaster proof your international dive travel, mastering underwater strobes and PSI valve repair.

Beneath the Sea is proud to honor their 2013 Legends of the Sea: Ron and Valerie Taylor. With Ron’s passing, Valerie has come from Australia to help celebrate the birthday of their dear friend Stan Watermen.

The Women Divers Hall of Fame will present their new inductees, of interest Among the inductees to the Women Divers Hall of (posthumous) is Simone Cousteau who was one of the first women to dive and served as wife to Jacques Cousteau and mother to all who sailed on the Calypso.

2013 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year award. Dan Orr, President Emeritus of DAN, will present the DAN/Rolex award to this years DAN/Rolex Diver of the Year: Frank Chapman.

The Saturday Night Film Festival is honoring Stan Waterman and many of his friends are coming. Bret Gilliam, author and industry professional extraordinaire will be the emcee for this evening of film and fun.  Other presenters include Howard and Michele Hall, Douglas David Siefert, Ernie Brooks, Leslie Leaney, and Chip Scarlet.

Sunday, March 24th Beneath the Sea opens its doors to the exhibit floor at 9:00 a.m. seminars and Workshops commence at 10:00 a.m. and the rapid beating heart of Beneath the Sea is alive again.  

It seems like there is more to see at Beneath the Sea than hours in which to see everything. Choosing what to do will be the most difficult but certainly there is something for everyone.
